Overview
A volcanic island whose shores change colour around every headland: the white moonscape of Sarakiniko, the red cliffs of Paliochori, the pale pirate caves of Kleftiko. Along the waterline, fishing villages paint their boat garages in every shade there is, and inland, hilltop Plaka watches the sun set over the great bay. Milos is the Cyclades before the crowds found them.

Seventy Beaches, No Two Alike
Volcanic geology gave Milos more than seventy beaches in white, red, gold and grey. Many of the finest can only be reached from the water, which is exactly how the island is meant to be seen.
Kleftiko by Boat
The old pirates' hideout on the southwest coast is a cathedral of white rock rising from turquoise water. A full day sail around the island, with swimming stops at Kleftiko, is the essential Milos experience.
Villages of Colour
In Klima and Mandrakia, fishermen's boat houses called syrmata line the water, their doors painted red, green and blue. Above them, whitewashed Plaka ends the day with one of the best sunsets in Greece.
Milos is the island photographers whisper about. Its volcanic past shaped a coastline found nowhere else in Greece: Sarakiniko's smooth white rock rolling into the sea like a moonscape, hot springs bubbling off quiet beaches and caves that glow turquoise at midday. The Venus de Milo was unearthed here, and the island has kept that habit of hiding beauty in plain sight.
The truest way to see Milos is from the water. More than half its shoreline has no road at all, so the day belongs to boats: a slow circle of the island, anchoring at Kleftiko's white arches, swimming through caves at Sykia and pulling into coves that have no name on any map. With a local captain the route follows the wind, and the crowds simply never appear.
Ashore, the island keeps its own quiet rhythm. Plaka's lanes climb to a Venetian castle and a sunset that draws the whole village to its walls, while below, Klima's painted boat houses stand with their feet in the sea. Meals are simple and generous: fresh fish, local cheese and tomatoes that taste of the volcanic soil.
With our local team, Milos opens up properly: the right boat and captain for the day's weather, a table in Pollonia as the fishing boats come in and a stay that puts the island's strange, beautiful coast on your doorstep. You arrive, and Milos does the rest.

Good To Know
Food
Milos keeps its kitchen close to the sea and the soil: fresh fish in Pollonia and Klima, watermelon pie called karpouzopita, local goat cheese and sun dried tomatoes from volcanic earth. Tavernas are family run and unhurried, which suits the island perfectly.
Weather & Getting Around
May, June and September are ideal, with warm seas and quiet beaches; July and August are busier but still gentler than the famous islands. Milos has a small airport with short flights from Athens, plus ferries from Piraeus. A car helps for the beaches with roads, but the west coast and Kleftiko belong to boats, so plan at least one full day on the water.
