Overview
Let us be honest with you from the start: the real strength of Sithonia is not its villages. It is the landscape. There is no whitewashed main town here, no Santorini to photograph. What you get instead is one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in mainland Greece, and long days that are less about ticking off sights and more about being by the sea.

Landscape, Not Towns
Unbelievable turquoise water, pine forest that comes right down to the sand, dozens of hidden coves and beaches that rival many Greek islands, with very little large-scale development to spoil them.
Why Greeks Love It
Easy driving from Thessaloniki, excellent swimming, family-friendly beaches and honest prices. Sithonia is where northern Greeks choose to spend their own summers, and that is the best review there is.
Best by Boat or Car
The peninsula is a collection of small places spread along one glorious coast road. Rent a car, or better still a small boat, and let the coastline set the plan.
If your idea of Greece is wandering the lanes of one beautiful historic town, finding a wine bar, strolling after dinner, Sithonia will catch you off guard. It is not built around a single settlement the way Santorini or Mykonos are. Instead it is a loop of coast road strung with small places, Vourvourou, Nikiti, Neos Marmaras, Sarti, Toroni, Porto Koufo, Kalamitsi, each with its own personality, none of them trying to be the destination. The destination is the coastline itself.
And what a coastline it is. Pine forest runs unbroken to the edge of the sand, so the air smells of resin while you swim. The water shifts through shades of turquoise that look borrowed from the Caribbean, the coves are small and often empty, and the beaches stand comparison with any island in Greece. Development has stayed mercifully small scale: you will find family-run rooms and a taverna behind the beach, not a wall of resorts in front of it.
Days here fill themselves. Rent a small self drive boat at Vourvourou and drift between the islets of Diaporos. Drive the loop with no schedule and swim at whichever cove looks best from the road. Snorkel off the rocks, paddleboard across a sheltered bay, eat fish at Porto Koufo that was swimming the same morning, then do it all again tomorrow in a different order. Children are welcome everywhere, the shallow bays were made for them, and the pace never rises above a stroll.
That is why we send families, road trippers and nature lovers here first, and why we are equally honest with anyone chasing glamour: this is not that place. Sithonia is for long days by the sea, an easy drive from Thessaloniki, at prices that stay fair through high summer. Come for a week and you will understand why the Greeks have been quietly keeping it for themselves.

Good To Know
Getting Around
A car is not optional here; it is how Sithonia works. The loop road around the peninsula is one of the great coastal drives of Greece, the best coves sit below unmarked bends, and buses are too sparse to rely on. From Thessaloniki airport allow about an hour and a half to Neos Marmaras and closer to two and a half for the far tip. We arrange cars and private transfers so the drive down is as easy as the days that follow.
On the Water
The single best thing you can do here is take to the sea. Small self drive boats rent by the day at Vourvourou with no licence needed for the lower powered ones, paddleboards and kayaks are everywhere, and the snorkelling off the rocky points is the best in Chalkidiki. Ask us to arrange a skippered day along the coast if you would rather someone else knows where the good anchorages are.
Where to Stay
Development has stayed small here, which is the charm and the catch: the best seafront suites and family-run hotels are few and they fill months ahead for July and August. June and September offer the same turquoise water with empty sand and easier bookings. Tell us your dates early and we will hold the right rooms, including small gems like Linari Sea and Suites.
