Overview
A peaceful island shaped entirely by nature, wrapped around one of Europe's largest protected marine reserves. Its waters are a sanctuary for the rare Mediterranean monk seal, dolphins and seabirds, best explored on a private boat drifting between uninhabited islets. On land, walking trails wind through pine and olive to old shepherds' paths and empty beaches, where the only sound is the sea.

Europe's Largest Marine Park
The National Marine Park of Alonissos and the Northern Sporades protects a vast stretch of sea and a scatter of uninhabited islets, best explored slowly, by boat, on the water's own terms.
Home of the Monk Seal
These protected waters are a refuge for the endangered Mediterranean monk seal, along with dolphins, wild goats and seabirds. Wildlife you will not reliably find anywhere else in the Aegean.
Trails, Peace and Empty Beaches
Walking paths thread through pine and olive to old villages and quiet coves. This is the island for hikers, swimmers and anyone chasing stillness.
Alonissos is the wild, quiet edge of the Sporades, an island where nature comes first and everything else follows. There are no big resorts and no rush here, just green hills, clear water and a pace set entirely by the seasons. For travellers who want the Sporades at their most peaceful, this is the place.
The island's great treasure lies offshore. The National Marine Park of Alonissos and the Northern Sporades is one of the largest protected marine reserves in Europe, a sanctuary of open sea and uninhabited islets that is home to the endangered Mediterranean monk seal, along with dolphins, wild goats and countless seabirds. The best way to experience it is slowly, on a private boat, drifting between islets and dropping anchor in water so clear you can watch the seabed pass beneath you.
On land, Alonissos rewards those who wander. Walking trails cross the island through pine and olive groves, past old shepherds' paths to the hilltop Old Town, its stone houses restored and looking out over the sea. Below lie coves and pebble beaches where, more often than not, the only sound is the water on the shore.
With our local captains and guides, the marine park and the quiet corners of the island open up as they should: a full day on the water among the islets, a walk to a beach you would never find alone, a taverna where the fish was caught that morning. You arrive, and the wild side of the Sporades is arranged around you.

Good To Know
Food
Alonissos eats simply and well, with the day's catch, garden vegetables and honey and cheese from the surrounding hills. Meals are shared family style, slow and generous, which makes the island a relaxed choice for groups and selective eaters alike.
Weather & Getting Around
July and August are hot and busy; May, June and September bring warm days, calm seas and space to breathe. There is no airport on Alonissos, so most visitors arrive by ferry via Skiathos. The marine park and the island's best beaches are reachable only from the sea, so a private boat is the single best way to experience Alonissos.
